Application for Reaching Out Award 2017-2018

Applications are now invited from United College full-time undergraduate students for the Reaching Out Awards (ROA) offered by the HKSAR Government in 2017-2018. These awards, in the amount of HK$10,000 each, aim to support students to participate in events, competitions (e.g. conferences / forums / workshops / seminars / training camps / competitions/ service projects etc.), internships or placements (credit-bearing / non-credit bearing), field / study trips or courses (e.g. foreign language immersion programmes / academic exchange programmes etc.) which are conducted outside Hong Kong in the academic year 2017-2018.

Selection criteria:
1. The outreach activities should be conducted outside Hong Kong, either organized or endorsed by the university.
2. There is no restriction on the duration of the outreach activities but they must take place during the period from 1 September 2017 to 31 August 2018.
3. Year 1 applicants must have good academic results during secondary education and in public examinations; Year 2 or above applicants must have attained a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above up to the summer session of the previous academic year (if cumulative GPA is not available, a GPA equivalent of 3.0 or above in the previous academic year is required).
4. Preference is given to local students.
5. Financial need may also be considered.
6. Nominee can apply for ONE activity only.
7. Students can only receive the award once throughout the entire study programme at the university.
8. Each ROA awardee is required to submit a reflection report within one month of completion of the outreach activity to the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid, CUHK. 
9. Selection results will be announced by the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid in June 2018. Successful candidates will also be notified in writing.

Students interested to apply please submit the following supporting documents to the United College Dean of Students’ Office during the period from 8 January to 12:00 noon of 7 February 2018. ALL copies of the supporting documents must be in A4 size white papers and printed on both sides. Incomplete forms and late applications will not be accepted.

1. A completed resume form: application form can be downloaded from the College website (“section J” to be completed by the College). Please upload the completed form in word file to the College website https://cloud.itsc.cuhk.edu.hk/webform/view.php?id=4374380 and submit the original copy to the College Dean of Students’ Office. The resume form should be typed and signed.
2. For Year 1 applicants: copies of public examination reports (e.g. HKDSE, IB, GCE etc.) / academic transcript on previous qualifications (e.g. Higher Diploma, Associate Degrees etc.)
3. For Year 2 or above applicants: transcript on current programme up to academic year 2016-2017, including summer term (if any). Please provide the unofficial transcript downloaded from CUSIS with issued date on or after 1 October 2017.
4. A copy of academic transcripts with Explanation Notes of Grading System on an Exchange Programme (if any). Any downloaded transcripts are not acceptable.
5. Information of the outreach activity issued by the organizer (e.g. poster, leaflet, email etc.)
6. Proof on successful admission / enrolment into the outreach activity (e.g. letter of confirmation / email notification issued by the host organizer etc.) (only for those nominees who have successfully been admitted / enrolled into the said activity)
7. A reflection report if the nominee has already completed the outreach activity at the time of application (guidelines can be downloaded from the College website).
