2nd Green Camp Co-organised by United College X Ling College

To foster communication and friendship between students of United College and Ling College, and to deepen their understanding of social innovation and sustainability in Hong Kong and Shenzhen, the two colleges jointly organised the Green Camp 2025 – a 4-day-3-night experiential learning programme. A total of 20 students (10 from each college) participated in the camp, which encouraged in-depth discussions and reflection on topics such as low-carbon living and ecological conservation through site visits in both cities.
The first two days took place in Shenzhen. On the first day, students visited the Ling College campus to connect with one another, followed by site visits to BYD Auto Corporation and Cowarobot Corporation to learn about the advancements in the new energy industry, including electric vehicles and autonomous sanitation vehicles, etc.
On the second day, students toured the Futian Mangrove Ecological Park, Shenzhen, located across the river from Hong Kong Mai Po Nature Reserve and visited the Shenzhen Museum to gain deeper insights into the ecosystems, historical development, and urban evolution of both cities.
The final two days of Green Camp 2025 were held in Hong Kong. On the third day, under the guidance of Dr Tony M H Chan, College Secretary of United College, students toured the college’s energy-saving and renewable energy facilities. This was followed by an environmental walk across the CUHK campus led by Professor Johnson C S Chan from Department of Geography and Resource Management, who introduced students to the campus’s natural environment and the historical development of its hillside architecture. Students then visited the CUHK Jockey Club Museum of Climate Change, where they gained deeper understanding of the global impacts of climate change on human civilization.
The day continued with visits to Mil Mill, Hong Kong’s only beverage carton recycling factory, and “Green@Sha Tin,” Hong Kong’s first community recycling station. They explored the roles of public and private organisations in environmental protection and recycling. They also participated in DIY workshops, which they created recycled paper aroma stones and natural toothpaste, experiencing how everyday resources can be reused in simple ways in our daily life.
The Camp concluded with a closing ceremony, where students shared their reflections and proposed solutions on key topics such as low-carbon living, sustainable urban development, and ecological conservation. The ceremony was graced by Professor Tang Sze Wing, Associate Head of United College; Professor Tse Chi Shing, Associate Dean of Students; and Dr Tony M H Chan, College Secretary. Certificates of participation were awarded to all students, marking the enriching conclusion of Green Camp 2025.
