Fresh Start at CUHK: Navigating College Life at UC

Many new students are unfamiliar with the unique college system at CUHK, as well as the campus geography, student hostel arrangements, and scholarship opportunities. With only two to three days between officially joining CUHK and submitting their college preferences, it’s understandable that freshmen may feel overwhelmed when making such an important decision.
To help new students quickly grasp essential information, United College proactively shared key updates across various platforms before and after CUHK Orientation Day on 7 August 2025. On the day, college staff and student ambassadors were stationed at Yasumoto International Academic Park, offering guidance and answering questions to help students gain a clear and comprehensive understanding of what United College has offered.
The two sessions of Introductory Talk held that day were met with enthusiastic responses and full attendance. Professor Stephen H S Wong, College Head, and Professor Martin C S Wong, Associate Head and Dean of Students, warmly welcomed the new students to CUHK, and introduced the College’s wide-ranging resources and opportunities. They encouraged students to actively engage with College life, make full use of these opportunities to broaden their horizons and make the most of their time to prepare for academic success, personal growth and future development.
Four energetic student representatives — Ms Lam Ka Yee (BECE/3), Mr Yung Wing Chun (MEDU/4), Ms Chung Pui Yu (AIST/3), and Mr Or Chung Tin (PSYC/5) — introduced large-scale student activities organised by UC students, student societies, hostel life, and exchange experiences during the introductory talk. Their sharing not only gave new students a glimpse into the vibrant and diverse student activities at UC but also offered an authentic insight into college life from a student’s perspective.

Polly Chung (left) and Samual Or (right), who have organised several large-scale student activities, gave a detailed introduction to the college’s hall culture and its four signature activities. They encouraged freshmen to actively participate and create unforgettable college memories together.
Nearly 180 freshmen also joined the campus tour led by student ambassadors, visiting student hostels, the library, and sports facilities. Through the ambassadors’ introductions, students gained deeper insights into the vibrant college life and culture at UC.
