Initiation Ceremony for Freshmen 2025-2026

The Initiation Ceremony for the 2025-2026 academic year was held on 5 September 2025 at the Sir Run Run Shaw Hall, welcoming nearly 970 freshmen and College guests.
Professor Stephen H S Wong, College Head, warmly welcomed the new students and expressed his delight at their joining the UC family. He remarked that the start of the new semester brings boundless expectations and opportunities for each freshman. He encouraged students to actively engage in various College activities to foster communication, connection, and personal growth.
He highlighted that this year’s freshman intake has reached a record high, with each student contributing unique strengths and aspirations that add vibrancy to the College. He encouraged students to embrace a growth mindset, face challenges with resilience, and view mistakes as valuable learning experiences. He reaffirmed that the College’s commitment to supporting students in both their academic and personal development.
Professor Martin C S Wong, Associate College Head and Dean of Students, encouraged students to seize the chance of enriching non-formal education experience and building lifelong social networks. Ms Avril Y W Cheng, President of the College Student Union, also welcomed all freshmen joining United College family.
