‘Traditional X Contemporary’ You See 2.0 – College Assemblies of UC, 2024-2025 Term 2 (Part II)

The College is dedicated to exploring new initiatives, providing a platform for UC students to access a wide range of knowledges, particularly in the arts and culture, to offer a more comprehensive non-formal education. Let’s recap some of the assemblies held in February to April:
【Career Talk by the Career Facilitation Development Scheme】
The scheme invited Mr Chau Yan Ting, local singer, and Mr Jayden Y Y Lam, College alumnus, to host the talk on 18 February 2025 at Sir Run Run Shaw Hall. For details, please click HERE to read more.
【Friday 730 Film Appreciation — A Fish Called Wanda】
On 21 February 2025, the 7th College Assembly of this term was held in the evening at Lecture Theatre 5 of Lee Shau Kee Building. Mr Hardy Tsoi, Senior College Tutor, chose a heist comedy film of 1988 for the audience. He also invited Mr Yu Leung Lee, a Macau playwright and director, to share his view with our students after the movie appreciation.
Laughter rose and fell in the theatre from throughout the night. Hope all participants had enjoyed a great movie night!
【Movie Appreciation: “The Art Trilogy of Zao Wou-Ki” 】
Zao Wou-Ki, a renowned Chinese-French painter, setting a world auction record for an oil painting by an Asian artist. With the support from the Sunwah Group and College Trustee Mrs Janice Choi, students were able to learn more about this legendary artist through the documentary “The Art Trilogy of Zao Wou-Ki”, which were broadcasted on 10 March 2025 at the Sir Run Run Shaw Hall at the 8th College Assembly of this term.
Following the screening, Mrs Choi shared her profound insights on Zao’s work and her perspectives on painting appreciation.
【2024-2025 Distinguished Visiting Scholar Public Lecture 1, 2 and Night Talk】
The 2024-2025 Distinguished Visiting Scholar Scheme had the honour of welcoming Professor Jacob Soll as the Distinguished Visiting Scholar. Professor Soll is a leading historian, public intellectual, and Professor of Philosophy, History, and Accounting at the University of Southern California. 【Alumni Talk Series — 32nd Talk】
The College and the College Alumni Association co-organised the Alumni Talk on 20 March 2025 at UC Staff Common Room. Ms Shum Wai Ling Hester, Group Chief human Resources Officer of PCCW Group, was invited as guest speaker. For details, please click HERE to read more.
【A Dialogue with Ms Chong Mui Ngam】
UC Drama Club has been long established. Groups and groups of students interested in Cantonese dramas were nurtured throughout the years. On 21 March 2025, the College was glad to have invited the famous Hong Kong playwright and CUHK alumnus, Ms Candance M N Chong, to have a dialogue with our students at the 13th College Assembly. Representatives of the UC Drama Club were thrilled to meet Ms Chong and have an in-depth conversation with Ms Chong, from her college life to change in career path, as well as her views on the Cantonese dramas nowadays.
【Project Presentation of Group Sense Social Innovation and Sustainable Development Award 2024-2025】

【Yoga and Meditation Workshop】
In response to the positive feedback from last year, the College hold the Yoga and Meditation Workshop again as the 16th College Assembly this term. The College continued to work with Miss Kylie H C Yau, a CUHK alumnus and yoga instructor, to conduct an English workshop on 28 March 2025 at the Thomas H C Cheung Gymnasium for 100 UC students. Kylie taught several simple yoga poses, emphasizing the importance of nurturing both physical and mental wellness. She encouraged the participants to continue practicing exercises regularly.
【UC Annual Workshop 2025】
This year’s Annual Workshop of United College was held on 7 April 2025 at LSK Building LT5, with the theme of “The Necessary Costs of Sustainability: Climate Finance, Green Finance and Environmental Levies”. For details, please click HERE to read more.
