Open Consultation on the Appointment of the Next Head of United College

The first term of office of Professor Stephen H S Wong as Head of United College will expire on 31 July 2026. In accordance with The Chinese University of Hong Kong Ordinance (the Ordinance), a Committee to be chaired by the Vice-Chancellor and consists of a representative of the Board of Trustees and six Fellows elected by the College Assembly as its members (the Committee) has been formed to make recommendations to University Council on the appointment of the next Head of United College (UC).

Ms Lina H Y YAN, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of United College, was elected via circular vote on 7 October 2025 as the representative of the Board.

The Assembly of Fellows has elected the following six Fellows to serve on the Committee on 23 December 2025:

• Professor Kevin Y F AU, Department of Management
• Professor Anthony Y H FUNG, School of Journalism and Communication
• Professor HO Che Wah, Department of Chinese Language and Literature
• Professor LEE Hung Kay, Department of Chemistry
• Professor Vivian W Y LEE, Centre for Learning Enhancement and Research
• Professor Martin C S WONG, The Jockey Club School of Public Health and Primary Care

Pursuant to Paragraph 3 of Statute 9 of the Ordinance, Professor Stephen H S WONG is eligible for re-appointment for another period of three years. Professor Wong has also indicated his willingness to continue to serve United College.

In order to collect feedback and comments from UC staff, students and alumni regarding the appointment of the next College Head, the representative of the United College Board of Trustees and the group of six Fellows elected to serve on the Committee will be organizing three consultation forums from late January to early February 2026. All UC staff, students and alumni are welcome to exchange views and to make recommendations for the consideration of the Committee.
