The University announced on 9 November 2020 that although the COVID-19 pandemic is stabilizing somewhat in Hong Kong, it would be prudent, in the best interest of student health and safety, to continue to enforce single-room occupancy in student hostels in Term 2 of 2020-2021. In addition, residential space will also be set aside by the University and Colleges for contingency purposes.
Under this arrangement, the number of hostel places available for allocation at UC student hostels in Term 2 of 2020-2021 will be reduced by 70%. United College has no alternative but to cancel all provisional offers made previously for the next semester and start the allocation process afresh. As suggested by the University, freshmen and final-year students with prior hostel allocation will be given priority when they apply for special accommodation in Term 2 of 2020-2021. Students who have prior hostel allocation in Term 2 of 2020-2021 and with compelling reasons to stay on campus can also apply. The College will announce more details to students via email.
