【2025 UC GOAL X LIP】Culture and Chinese Language (Mandarin) Programme at the Taiwan Chengchi University, Taiwan

This summer, the College once again collaborated with Taiwan Chengchi University in Taiwan to offer a Culture and Chinese Language (Mandarin) Programme themed “Understanding Culture and History for Effective Communication — New Immigrants in Taiwan”. The programme aimed to deepen students’ understanding of the social and cultural conditions of immigrant communities in Taiwan, foster critical thinking, and encourage reflection on their own cultural perspectives.

Over the 2-week programme, students participated in cultural exploration workshops and learned field research methods. Beyond the classroom, Chengchi University also organised insightful field studies that allowed students to delve into the social and cultural dynamics of immigrant communities. Highlights included visits to Burmese Street in Zhonghe, the An-Kang Community, and the Indonesian community near Taipei Main Station. These experiences offered deeper insights into the social structures, migration issues, and the coexistence of diverse cultures.

Students carried out field investigations in various locations.

The two-week programme fostered communication and connection between students from both universities.

Through daily exchanges and sharing with students from both institutions, our students significantly improved their Mandarin proficiency. We are confident that every student gained valuable experiences and meaningful insights through this programme. Finally, the College extends its sincere gratitude to Professor Lo Tien Chun for serving as the programme advisor and for helping create lasting memories with the students.
