【2025 UCGOAL】Urban-Nature Harmony in Sydney: Summer Programme at the University of Sydney, Australia

Guided by Programme Advisor and Senior College Tutor, Professor Lam Kin Che and Assistant College Development Officer, Mr Sam W Chan, 28 students College students embarked on a three-week immersive learning journey in Australia from 21 June to 12 July 2025. The students were based at the University of Sydney and undertook the credit-bearing course “Ocean, Coast and Climate Change”.
This interdisciplinary programme took students on a sweeping exploration of Earth’s geological history, from the planet’s formation and the emergence of oceans to the complex interplay between marine ecosystems and global climate change. Students also learned to use specialised software for data processing and interpretation.
Learning extended beyond the classroom into the vibrant city of Sydney. Thanks to Professor Lam’s thoughtful arrangements, students explored Circular Quay, admired the architectural splendor of the Sydney Opera House, and traced the historical roots of The Rocks. With support from the College, they also enjoyed a delightful lunch at the Sydney Fish Market, savoring fresh, authentic Australian seafood.
A highlight of the trip was the visit to Wild Life Sydney Zoo, where students gained firsthand insights into Australia’s unique biodiversity. The experience was made even more memorable by a breakfast alongside koalas – an enchanting moment during which students eagerly captured photos.
Following the successful completion of this enriching overseas study tour, the College extends its sincere gratitude to Professor Lam Kin Che for his dedicated guidance and invaluable contributions as Programme Advisor. His support added depth and confidence to the students’ Australian journey.
