On 23 May 2025, United College hosted its first PR-style Writing Workshop, titled “How to Write for Effect,” for College colleagues. The workshop, led by two College members, Mr Jonas Kelsch and Ms Shirley T S Lam from the English Language Teaching Unit, aimed to elevate the quality and professionalism of the College’s publications.

Participants were introduced to various PR writing techniques, including structuring narratives, crafting engaging headlines, and tailoring messages to specific readers. Interactive exercises provided attendees with the opportunity to practice these techniques and receive constructive feedback from peers and facilitators. Group discussions facilitated the sharing of experiences and challenges in PR writing, fostering a sense of community among colleagues. The practical tips and collaborative atmosphere were well-received, with many attendees expressing increased confidence in their writing abilities.
As Mr Jonas remarked during the workshop,
“Our unique voices are what make our writing compelling and relatable.”
This sentiment resonated with participants, underscoring the importance of individuality in writing and support our colleagues’ professional development.
