Distinguished Visiting Scholar 2024-25 – Professor Jacob Soll

With the generous support of the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the College Endowment Fund, the “2024-25 Distinguished Visiting Scholar Scheme” hosted by United College from 12 to 19 March 2025, has concluded.
This year, the College had the honour of welcoming Professor Jacob Soll as the Distinguished Visiting Scholar. Professor Soll is a leading historian, public intellectual, and Professor of Philosophy, History, and Accounting at the University of Southern California. His work spans the history of political thought, the history of accounting, and the role of information in the development of modern states. Much of his work has been animated by the question of why succeed or fail, and the lessons these historical cases can teach us.
