From Feasts to Festivals: Six Halls Light Up UC

High Table Dinners are annual highlights for all student hostels, where each residents’ association puts great effort into creating beautifully decorated settings. These events offer to create a stunning setting for attendees to capture memorable moments and photos. More importantly, the event featured distinguished guests who shared their insights and experiences, fostering meaningful connections and learning opportunities beyond the hostel environment. Meanwhile, Non-residential Halls also dedicate themselves to organise engaging activities for non-resident students, ensuring that everyone can enjoy a vibrant and inclusive campus life.
Adam Schall Residence
The Residents’ Association of Adam Schall Residence hosted the High Table Dinner on 3 April 2025 in the UC Staff Common Room, featuring Ms Ivy So, a member of the popular Hong Kong girl group, Collar, as the guest speaker. The event drew an enthusiastic response, with over 100 applications received. Centred around the theme “Dream Chasing,” Ivy shared her personal journey of pursuing her dreams the challenges she faced and how she overcame them. Her candid talk resonated deeply with the audience, leaving everyone motivated to pursue their own aspirations with courage and resilience.
Bethlehem Hall
Bethlehem Hall Residents’ Association invited Mr Chow Yan Ting, a renowned Hong Kong singer, as the guest speaker. He shared his inspiring journey from a dreamer to a performer, highlighting that true success comes from the courage to rise after setbacks. His heartfelt story resonated with attendees, who also took the opportunity to bridge cultural differences through sincere conversations—bringing hearts closer together in a spirit of unity and understanding.
Chan Chun Ha Hostel
Chan Chun Ha Hostel High Table Dinner was held on 21 March, themed “Chanlora,” with around 60 participants attending in formal attire. The evening featured renowned YouTuber, Anton, as the keynote speaker, who delivered an engaging and entertaining talk titled “Don’t Know How? Just Try!” Her humourous and heartfelt message encouraged students to embrace challenges and step beyond their comfort zones. Her speech resonated deeply with the audience.
Hang Seng Hall
The Residents’ Association of Hang Seng Hall was honored to host Mr Yam Wing Cheung, Co-Founder and Director of Doughnut – a renowned local brand in Hong Kong and an alumnus of the College – as the guest speaker for the annual High Table Dinner on 24 March 2025. Mr Yam shared his inspiring entrepreneurial journey spanning 15 years since graduation. He emphasised the mindset and preparation required to thrive as global talents in today’s dynamic economic landscape. Highlighted the importance of cultivating an entrepreneurial spirit and staying adaptable to rapidly changing environment, he encouraged students to equip themselves with the skills and resilience needed to navigate diverse challenges ahead.
Pak Chuen Hall
In March, Pak Chuen Hall hosted the “Pak Chuen Childhood Bazaar”, inviting all UC students to relive cherished childhood memories together. This year’s bazaar featured about 20 stalls offering different types of products, such as key chains with Hong Kong characteristics, nostalgic local snacks, wooden crafts, and accessories, creating a vibrant and nostalgic atmosphere.
Ping Fan Hall
Ping Fan Hall hosted two vibrant New Year events, creating unique cultural experiences and joyful moments for students. The Ping Fan Communal Meal gathered 80 participants for an evening of celebration and bonding, highlighted by a traditional Poon Choi feast served in eight communal pots, symbolising abundance and unity. The night was filled with entertainment, including dynamic performances by the dance group “9nymph”, a busking act, and special showcases by Ping Fan’s committee and Leward’s singing. The excitement peaked during the lucky draw, with prizes like adorable dolls and a Marshall speaker amplifying the festive atmosphere.
Another new year activity (熊運當頭), held over two days, offered a different yet equally engaging experience, focusing on New Year traditions. Participants drew wooden plaques for blessings and received keepsakes like charms and stickers.
