One World, One Community. Bon Voyage! College Assemblies of UC, 2025-2026 Term 1 (Part I)
Between September and October 2025, nine assemblies had been organised with the theme of ‘One World, One Community. Bon Voyage!’. Let’s recap these sessions below:
【Hok Hoi Lectures on Chinese Wisdom and Life Pursuits Series】
From 2025-2026, the College jointly organised a series of lectures with the Leisure and Cultural Services Department of Hong Kong Public Libraries, Hok Hoi Library, Jao Tsung-I Petite Ecole of The University of Hong Kong, Institute of Chinese Studies of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and Jao Tsung-I Academy of Sinology of Hong Kong Baptist University. These lectures were open to United College students and were usually held on the first Saturday morning of each month at the Hong Kong Central Library.
The lectures held on 6 September 2025 and 4 October 2025 were as follows:
- Professor Jao Tsung-i and His Academic Ties with Hong Kong, by Professor Cheng Hwei Shing
- The “Luo Xiang” (Conceptualisation) Process in Jao Tsung-i’s Metaphysical Tzu Creation: A Discussion on the Creative Transformation of the Chinese Poetic Tradition, by Professor Sze Yee Tui

【The Office of the Arts Administrator, CUHK (OAA) Presented – Lunch Time Concert: Famous Xiao and Dizi Performer Chan Hung Yin and Students Concert at CUHK】
To keep broadening our students’ knowledge of art and culture, the College has allowed students to attend one of the music performances organised by OAA, and be counted for one assembly attendance. This lunch time concert featured Mr Chan Hung Yin and he performed captivating music pieces with Chinese xiao and dizi. Participated students enjoyed themselves and relaxed in the midst of a busy day.
The College also hoped to take this opportunity to spark students’ interest in Chinese culture.

【“Student Life Charter” Signing & Introduction of Student Union, 7 Hostels / Non-Residential Halls’ Student Associations】

This year, the College was pleased to have the new hostel – Choi Kai Yau Residence joining the “Student Life Charter” Signing Ceremony that held on 19 September 2025 at the Sir Run Run Shaw Hall. Prior to the signing ceremony, Professor C S Tse, Associate Dean of Students, introduced the Charter in detail to the students, aiming to deepen their understanding.
The College was honoured to have Ms Lina H Y Yan, Chairman of the College Board of Trustees, the College management team and wardens of the seven hostels to join the signing ceremony of the “Student Life Charter” on stage, with the student representatives from United College Student Union (UCSU) and seven hostels.
Then student representatives of UCSU and the seven hostels/non-residential halls took turn to introduce themselves, aiming to promote and attract more new students to join their upcoming activities.
【Alumni Talk Series – 33rd Talk】

The 6th college assembly was held in the format of High Table Dinner at UC Staff Common Room on 13 October 2025. The College was honored to have invited Dr Kwong Wing Yan (10/MBChB), recipient of the CUHK Distinguished Medical Alumni Award 2024, to deliver a talk on the topic “What Has My Medical Work Taught Me?”.

【Environmental Seminar on the Plastic Wastes】

The 8th College Assembly was held on 24 October 2025 at C1, T C Cheng Building, with live broadcasting to C2 and C3 to accommodate a larger student audience.
In the first part of the assembly, a documentary Plastic China was screened. This thought-provoking documentary featured a few families living near the plastic recycling factories in China. Following the screening, a sharing was delivered by CraSea Cleanupper. CraSea Cleanupper is a volunteer group dedicated to cleaning beaches in Hong Kong to protect the environment and habitat of different marine creatures. Their interesting sharing inspired different questions amongst the student audience.
【Seminar on Chinese Cultures】

The 9th College Assembly was held at Sir Run Run Shaw Hall on 31 October 2025. Before the assembly began, the College took the opportunity to introduce and recognise this year’s outstanding United College students to the student audience.
Then College was pleased to invite Dr Cheung Shin Yee, CUHK alumnus, to share her knowledge on Chinese cultures with students. Dr Cheung had delivered a seminar on the topic “Ancient Chinese Clothing”. In view of the revival of wearing Hanfu and other ancient Chinese clothing amongst the youngsters, it is beneficial for students to deepen their knowledge in the clothing styles of different Chinese dynasties. Dr Cheung also introduce the development of archeology in ancient Chinese clothing started since 1980s.
