One World, One Community. Bon Voyage! College Assemblies of UC, 2025-2026 Term 1 (Part II)

In November 2025, five assemblies had been organised before Term 1 ended. Let’s recap these sessions below:

Hok Hoi Lectures on Chinese Wisdom and Life Pursuits Series
The monthly Hok Hoi Lecture, jointly organised by the College, Leisure and Cultural Services Department of Hong Kong Public Libraries, Hok Hoi Library, Jao Tsung-I Petite Ecole of The University of Hong Kong, the Institute of Chinese Studies of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and the Jao Tsung-I Academy of Sinology of Hong Kong Baptist University, was held on 1 November 2025. This time, Professor Sin Chow Yiu of the Hong Kong Nang Yan College of Higher Education shared on the topic: “A Glimpse into the Scholarship and Artistry of Professor Jao Tsung-I.”

Pickle Ball Workshop
The College aims to help our students maintain the good practice of regular exercise. To achieve the goal, the College would include one sports workshop in the College Assemblies each Term.

In view of the growing popularity of pickleball in Hong Kong, the College invited Mr Wong Kam Ming from the Pickleball Association of Hong Kong, China, and his colleagues to teach our students the basic knowledge of this sport.

After the introduction and practice sessions, students were divided into groups for friendly competitions. Towards the end of the workshop, Mr Wong presented souvenirs to the winning team.

Sports-related Seminar
On 19 November 2025, the 12th College Assembly was held at Sir Run Run Shaw Hall. A sports-related seminar was delivered by Dr Anna Ma and Mr Nigel Szeto. Dr Ma and Mr Szeto are the certified Scuba Schools International (SSI) Master Diver and SSI Diving Master Instructor, respectively, and are enthusiastic about promoting diving among secondary and university students.

They shared not only the breathtaking beauty beneath the sea but also the challenging moments of their different journeys. Each dive is not just fun and exercise; it is also a journey of self-reflection and of pushing one’s limits.

The students’ interest was instantly triggered by the presentation. Some of them stayed behind after the seminar to speak to the speakers closely, asked them questions and further explored how they can be trained as an SSI diver.

Wellness Seminar
The 13th College Assembly featuring mental wellness was held on 21 November 2025, at C1, T C Cheng Building.

The College was delighted to welcome Ms Ami Yeung (Rottenamimi ‘蛀蟲米’), a YouTuber dedicated to promoting mental wellness, who shared her insights with our students.

Ami spoke on the topic “When Life is a Game: Some Tips that You Can Try (Not Required)”, which included her bumpy journey to becoming a slightly famous YouTuber, how she dealt with the negative comments received from haters, and her experience with managing expectations.

Sharing by GOAL Programme Participants
The last College Assembly in Term 1 of 2025-2026 was held on 28 November 2025 at Sir Run Run Shaw Hall.

Five groups of UC students who participated in the GOAL Programme last year were invited to share their experiences and takeaways with the audience. Some of these students went overseas to take a course or to improve their English, while others traveled to a foreign country to provide services such as voluntary teaching.

In addition, Lin Minxin and Miller Poppy, Visiting Tutors from the Williams College, United States, also took the time to share with our students their life and work in the U.S.A.

The College hopes the student audience could be inspired by the sharing and grab the valuable chances to participate in short- or long-term exchange programmes offered by the College.
