Internship Scheme – Building a Bridge for Empowering Students and Engaging Alumni

This summer, the United College Internship Scheme, co-organised by the College and the UC Alumni Association, opened doors for students to step into the professional world. With the generous support of alumni employers, students took part in internships that offered more than just work experience—they gained practical skills, explored career interests, and received personalised mentorship.
These opportunities helped students build confidence, expand their networks, and clarify their career goals. For alumni, the scheme provided a meaningful way to give back and stay connected with the College community. The programme continues to serve as a bridge between generations, unlocking potential and shaping future success.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the alumni employers who have generously offered multiple internship positions to our students this year. The details are provided in the table below:

“During my internship in the Supply Chain Department at CitySuper, I had the opportunity to bridge the gap between classroom knowledge and real-world application. As a statistics major, I was eager to explore how data analysis supports supermarket operations. From measuring CBM and calculating totes and picking robots to participating in phase meetings, I gained hands-on experience with logistics data and optimisation tasks.
A highlight of my internship was contributing to the Warehouse Automation Project, where I learned to break down complex problems into actionable steps and adapt to challenges such as missing data. These tasks sharpened my Excel skills and deepened my understanding of hypothesis testing in practice.
Beyond technical work, orientation activities and site visits helped me understand the broader operational systems behind retail supply chains. Experiencing a professional environment in Hong Kong also gave me insight into working styles across cultures.
This internship not only enhanced my data analysis capabilities but also inspired me to further explore career paths at the intersection of data and operations. I’m grateful to the team and College alumnus, Ms Mona Liu, who made this experience both enriching and impactful.”
