Established in 1985 with the generous support of the United College Endowment Fund Committee, the Microcomputer Laboratory was created to advance IT education and support student learning. In 1992, following a generous donation from the late Dr Ho Tim, Permanent Trustee of United College (1995-2004), the facility was renamed as Tien Chi Microcomputer Laboratory in honor of Professor Chen Tien Chi, the fifth College Head, whose vision and dedication to tertiary education and IT development left a lasting legacy.

In response to the rapid evolution of digital technologies and the growing demand for interdisciplinary learning, the laboratory underwent a major renovation in 2021. In 2025, it was officially rebranded as the Tien Chi Digital Creative Space, ushering in a new era of creativity, collaboration, and innovation.
