Launch of Shum Choi Sang Mentorship Programme: Year of Philip Y C Sin 2023-2024

UC Shum Choi Sang Mentorship Programme: Year of Philip Y C Sin 2023-2024 officially launched in September. A total of 113 students were matched with alumni who graduated for over eight years, commencing a year-long programme.

▼Ice-breaking Session for Mentees

On 9 October 2023, the Mentorship Programme Coordinating Committee initiated an ice-breaking activity for the mentees, with an aim of encouraging them to stay in close contact so that mentees can play a more active role in maintaining the group’s bonding. The instructor warmed up the participants by playing some games, then divided them into four groups to compete, which aimed to train their problem-solving skills and allowed the teams to think about how to improve as well as to achieve effective communication.

▼Inauguration Luncheon

The highlight of the Mentorship Programme, the Inauguration Luncheon, was then held on 4 November at the Royal Plaza Hotel, with nearly 200 guests, mentors, and students in attendance. Professor Stephen H S Wong, College Head, delivered an opening speech, emphasising the importance of students cherishing the opportunity to learn from their mentors.

Mr Simon K C Lee, the President of College Alumni Association, pointed out the fascination of the Mentorship Programme, which has attracted close to 50 new mentors this year. Mr Lee believed that this is because of its unique opportunity to meet and learn from the experiences and inspirations of people with whom one would seldom come into contact.

Ms Lina H Y Yan, Chairman of the College Board of Trustees and Honorable President of the College Alumni Association, and Professor Stephen H S Wong, Head of United College, presented a trophy with inscription to the Mr and Mrs Philip Y C Sin, year patron of UC Mentorship Programme 2023-2024. Mr Sin is a College alumnus and was appointed as the College Trustee since 2022. He has been actively supporting various development of CUHK and the College. The Coordinating Committee expressed gratitude for his unwavering support.

Ms Lina H Y Yan led the guests to officiate at the Toast Ceremony.

Lastly, guests and participants took a group photo on stage, marking a precious moment as it was the first full group photo taken since 2019. We hoped that the Mentorship Programme would bring even more exciting experiences to participants in the upcoming year.
