The First Time We Met UC – CUHK Orientation Day 2023

The College organised a series of activities for the incoming CUHK freshmen during the CUHK Orientation Day 2023 on 10 August 2023. These activities included Introductory Talks, College Consultation and UC Campus Tour. These activities aimed to provide the new students with comprehensive insights into the College life at United College.

Introductory Talk

United College is well-known for its abundant resources and a wide range of non-formal education activities. Two sessions of Introductory Talk were held at LT6, Yasumoto International Academic Park to allow freshmen to have easy access to the College latest information.

Professor Stephen H S Wong, College Head, welcomed freshmen to join the CUHK community at the beginning of the Introductory Talks. It was followed by a brief introduction to college facilities, hostels, scholarships, and Globe-oriented Active Learning (GOAL) Programme delivered by Professor Martin C S Wong, Associate Head and Dean of Students (1st session), and Ms Crystal K Y Cheung, Associate Dean of Students (2nd session).

Ms Crystal K Y Cheung, Associate Dean of Students, illustrated important information of the United College to freshmen at the 2nd session of College Introductory Talk.

Photos and words might not be able to reflect the real side if the College life, so the College took a step further by inviting four student representatives, who are actively involved in various college activities, to share their vibrant college lives in UC. College alumnus, Mr Yu Ming (23/IBBA) and college student, Ms Esther H Y Kwong (MEDU/3) (1st session); and college students, Mr Jack S K Wong (CHEM/4) and Ms June Yau (PSYC/4) (2nd session), introduced hostel life and four large-scaled student-led activities, giving freshmen a glimpse of the dynamic aspects of United College.

College Consultation

A group of student helpers casually chatted with freshmen throughout the day, introducing them to United college and sharing their college lives. They also answered different questions raised by freshmen about CUHK. It is hoped that freshmen could be familiar with the CUHK with the help of our student helpers.

UC Campus Tour

Over 100 freshmen also joined the UC Campus Tour led by college student helpers. Freshmen visited different facilities around the UC campus, including the Adam Schall Residence, Bethlehem Hostel, Tien Chi Microcomputer Laboratory, Si Yuan Amenities Centre, United College Student Canteen, and College Dean of Student’s Office, to learn more about the College life in UC and the different campus facilities and environment.

Special thanks to the joint efforts of energetic and passionate student helpers for providing useful advice to freshmen, as well as giving them a taste of the vitality of United College!
