moreApplication for United College Shum Choi Sang Mentorship Programme 2023-2024: Year of Philip Y C Sin is now open, and the deadline is extended to 15 September 2023. This programme, jointly organised by United College and the United College Alumni Association, is sponsored by the late Mr Shum Choi Sang and Mr Philip Y C Sin, College Trustee and the Year Patron. The main purpose of the Programme is to foster a mentoring relationship between alumni and undergraduate students of the College. Through one-to-one pairing, it is anticipated that students will be able to build up self-confidence, develop good ethics and communication skills, and enhance their knowledge beyond mere book-learning. Dr Thomas H.C. Cheung, former Chairman, Board of Trustees of United College, CUHK, passed away peacefully on 30 August 2023, at the age of 94. The College is deeply saddened by the passing of Dr Cheung and conveys its deepest condolences to his family.
Dr Cheung is a distinguished personage in the insurance industry of Hong Kong, renowned as an entrepreneur and a prominent philanthropist. He graduated from the College with a degree in Economics in 1957. He was awarded the degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, by The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1993. Dr Cheung served as a Trustee of United College since 1976 and held the position of Chairman from 2012 to 2018. Over the years, he generously donated to the College and the University, establishing scholarships, supporting medical research, organizing student activities, and contributing to the improvement of sports facilities, benefiting countless students.
Dr Cheung was also actively involved in alumni affairs, serving as the President of the United College Alumni Association from 1964 to 2008, a remarkable tenure of 44 years. After his retirement, he was elected as the Honorary President of the Alumni Association, bridging the communication between alumni from different generations and the alma mater for half a century.
Dr Cheung’s outstanding achievements in his career, his deep concern for Hong Kong education, and his multifaceted contributions to the College and the University serve as an exemplary model for future generations.

They are required to pay the hostel fees together with the tuition fees at the beginning of the new academic year. Those wishing to relinquish their hostel places must notify the Working Committee on Selection of Resident Students by email (hostel.uc@cuhk.edu.hk) before noon of 14 July 2023. Otherwise, they will be disqualified from applying for hostel accommodation in the following academic year.
Residents who will reside in UC student hostels and wish to choose roommate(s) should submit applications by completing “Roommate(s) Selection Form” as below before noon of 14 July 2023.
