Physical Wellness
The Physical Education Unit organises UC Head’s Cup from January to March every year. Students from the four student hostels and two non-residential halls compete for the Championship by actively participating in different ball games, such as basketball, tennis, and badminton, etc.
Students with potential are encouraged to join the College sports teams through selections and represent the College in various inter-college competitions.
Swimming Gala is organised by the Physical Education Unit every September. All students are encouraged to actively participate in the individual and group events, competing for the overall championship titles across the four student hostels and two non-residential halls.
Athletic Meet is organised by the Physical Education Unit every late October. All students are encouraged to actively participate in track and field events. They will compete for the overall championship titles across the four student hostels and two non-residential halls.
Moderate amount of exercise and entertainment can alleviate the pressures of work and study, helping to maintain physical and mental balance. The College provides students with a wide variety of sports facilities, including the Thomas H C Cheung Gymnasium, a table tennis room, a fitness room and tennis courts.
“United College is one of the most comfortable and convenient colleges in CUHK. In UC, there is a library for studying, a gym for sports enthusiasts, a green lawn for relaxation, and the only bar on campus for socialising with friends. Personally, I favour UC gym, because it offers volleyball, badminton, and basketball. Sometimes I will go to the gym alone to play sports with strangers and make new friends. Overall, UC is a comprehensive college, and I thoroughly enjoyed my time there.”

“As an international student, United College feels like a second home to me. The most memorable experience is the “United College Mid-Autumn Festival Dinner”. We enjoyed mooncakes and had dinner with professors from United College. We shared our own college experiences and learned about local cultures. In addition to cultural bonding activities, the UC gym and basketball courts are also open after class hours, providing me with a place to work out and relieve stress after a tiring day. Moreover, the UC library study room is open 24 hours, allowing me to find a quiet place to work on my exams and reports. In summary, UC offers convenient facilities and a welcoming environment for international students to enjoy university life.”

Mental Wellness
Aiming at relieving students’ stress and easing their mood, the College has organised a series of activities and workshops which included “Forest Therapy at Tsz Shan Monastery”, “Wagashi Making Workshop”, “Wire Art Workshop” “Acrylic Pouring Workshop” and yoga classes, etc. Through the UChum programme, the College also provided mental health first-aid training to selected College Peer Support Ambassadors. These trained ambassadors then curated mental health awareness activities to support the well-being of their fellow UC students.
UChum (College Peer Support Ambassadors Programme)
UChum are student ambassadors openly recruited by the College. Selected ambassadors receive training in counselling skills and mental health first aid, equipping them to identify, support, and refer peers in need effectively. Ambassadors also organise diverse activities to foster a positive campus mental health environment.
“Above all, UChum gave me the chance to connect with kind and genuine peers from all backgrounds. Together, we worked on raising mental health awareness in fun and meaningful ways, like running a texture art sketching workshop next to M+ (which was my personal favorite!) and being peer mentors in the UC Peer Buddies Program. I will never forget interviewing 細C (Founder of Shelter By Shell And Spines, a social enterprise focusing on mental health issues) for a UC assembly and hosting a mental health sharing session at an AIESEC event. I am thankful for these experiences, as they not only gave me a deeper perspective on mental health, but also made my university life a lot more interesting.”

“Joining UChum has made me feel the warmth of our campus, especially how much people care about wellbeing. Whether it is my fellow UChum members or those participating in our activities, being part of UChum has allowed me to clearly witness the caring bonds between people. After joining UChum, I’ve come to better understand the importance of extending my care to others and how to truly express it.”
