UC Peer Buddies Programme

Stepping from secondary school into university is like a small fish leaving the gentle currents of a familiar river, suddenly finding itself in the vast, boundless ocean. The waters are deeper, the waves stronger, and everything feels new and unknown. Classrooms stretch wider, and the rhythm of learning shifts into unfamiliar tides.

If you’re feeling a little lost, the College warmly invites you to join the UC Peer Buddies Programme:

Each participating freshman will be paired with a senior student from a similar academic background to serve as their Buddy, supporting them as they adapt to university life. The programme will run for four months (from September December 2025), helping freshmen gradually get familiar with the campus life with the help of their Buddy. Even after the programme ends, you’re welcome to stay in touch with your Buddy.

The programme is completely free of charge, but places are limited. The College will allocate places based on the information provided during registration.

 

Programme Details:

• Activities will be mainly conducted in Cantonese.
• Each participating freshman will be paired with a senior student from a similar academic background to serve as their Buddy.
• Buddies will offer friendly and informal support, sharing advice on both academic and campus life to help freshmen better adapt to CUHK’s rhythm.
• The College and Buddies will organize 2 to 3 group activities during the first semester. Buddies are also encouraged to meet with their assigned freshmen at least twice outside of these events.
• All participants will be asked to complete a short feedback survey at the end of the semester to help the College improve future arrangements.

*Buddies are encouraged to meet with their paired freshmen at least two additional times during the first semester.

Notes

• The programme will be conducted primarily in Cantonese.
• Due to the wide range of academic disciplines, the College may not be able to assign a Buddy with a perfectly matched background for every freshman.
• Mutual respect is essential during interactions, please understand that everyone has different perspectives and lifestyles.
• Every university journey is unique. The experiences shared by senior students are not absolute answers; both sides can learn from each other’s stories and viewpoints.
