The HKSAR government announced on 2 June 2020 the latest regulations on compulsory quarantine arrangement, which the expiry date for the Compulsory Quarantine of Certain Persons Arriving at Hong Kong Regulation (Cap. 599C) has been extended to 7 July 2020. In response to the government’s policy, here are some updated arrangement regarding United College Summer Residencemore
The allocation result of UC Summer Residence are now available on the College website, the Dean of Students’ Office and student hostels.
Residents should check in from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm on the first day of the approved residence period. Please present your CU Link card together with two recent photos to the hostel staff at the corresponding hostel counter. Room keys will not be issued until the check-in procedures are completed. Residents who need to check-in late must write to the Warden and seek prior approval, otherwise the hostel places will be re-allocated to other students and no refund will be arranged.more
To be in line with the reopening date of University sports facilities on 13 May 2020 (WED) for better cleaning preparation, United College sports facilities will be reopened on the same day on 13 May, for badminton courts, table tennis room, fitness room and tennis courts, for the use of students and staff members.more
The College Student Canteen will undergo a special project to replace the air-conditioning system from 13 May to mid-June, 2020. The Student Canteen will remain open during the work period to provide service.
The opening hours of the College Canteens will be as below:
Monday-Friday 11:00 am – 8:00 pm
Saturday 11:00 am – 5:00 pm
Sunday and Public Holidays Closed

Taking over the routine duties of the College Student Union Executive Committee, an Ad Hoc Administration Committee was established on 31 March 2020 under the endorsement of the Student Union Council. The service term of the Ad Hoc Administration Committee takes immediate effect, until the next Student Union Executive Committee is formally elected and assumed office.

In light of the latest development of the COVID -19, the College has decided to cancel the Photo-taking Day and related activities scheduled on 17 April 2020 so as to protect the health and safety of all students and staff.
For those who have registered to borrow the academic gowns from the College, the College Dean of Students’ Office will contact them directly later for the new arrangement.

As the spread of the novel coronavirus has reached a critical stage, to reduce the risk of spreading the coronavirus, the internship programme is to be postponed until further notice. The College will update students on the latest arrangement via the SIEL Project’s Facebook page or email. As the spread of the novel coronavirus has reached a critical stage, the University has elevated the Response Level against novel coronavirus to “Emergency”. All UC hostels will introduce the following arrangements with immediate effect:
1. The University has decided to extend the Lunar New Year holiday, classes will resume on 17 February 2020. Therefore, all students are encouraged to stay at home. Unless it is necessary, you should not return to the hostels to reduce the risk of infection.
2. Those who need to stay at hostels are required to comply with the following measures:
a. No visitors are allowed to enter hostel areas with immediate effect.
b. Residents are required to record their personal information and the time when they enter and leave the hostel, in order to let the warden keep track the condition of residents
c. All students who return to hostels are required to declare their travel history in the previous 14 days by filling in the Health Declaration Form (See below). They are also required to monitor their health status for 14 days by filling in the Self-medical Surveillance Form (See below). The forms should be submitted to their respective hostel wardens.
d. All residents should wear surgical mask at public area and wash their hands frequently.
e. Those who experience any illness, or get to know their roommate with illness symptoms, should contact warden and resident tutor immediately for necessary arrangement.
As the situation is critical at this moment, the College strongly advises all residents to stay at home, avoid contact with different people by reducing the risk of infection. All the above measures may cause inconvenience to residents but they are necessary and your health is always our primary concern. All of us are urged to take care of their personal health and look out for the well-being of those around us.

The UC Working Committee on Selection of Resident Students would like to conduct an open consultation on revision of
hostel selection criteria for 2020-2021 and made the following amendments:
(a) UC Toastmasters Club is a student society managed by the College but not registered under UCSU. It is recommended to grant 10 scores to the President and 6 scores to other office-bearers.
(b) Student representatives in various College Committees nominated by UCSU will be revised as “Student representatives nominated by UCSU in various College Committees under Assembly of Fellows”.
(c) Regarding the new scheme of adding scores to helpers in UC Anniversary / UC Sing / UC Bun, it is recommended to reduce the maximum quota for each activity from 20 to 10.
(d) Non-local undergraduate applicants if failed to submit all required documents during the hostel application period, 20% of their hostel scores will be deducted.
United College students who have comments for the aforesaid amendments or the current hostel selection criteria should submit their suggestions to the College Dean of Students’ Office, wardens or members of the Working Committee on Selection of Resident Students in writing before 31 January 2020. A copy of the current hostel selection criteria is posted on the College website and notice boards for easy reference.

Non-local Internship or Research Scheme
This award scheme is open for application to those students who are going to join a short-term non-local internship or research programme (including field trips) of the respective teaching Department/Faculty during summer or winter breaks.
Supported by the College Endowment Fund, these studentships allow students to participate in short-term non-local study programmes and activities organized by the College, the University and other reputable outside organizations.
