United College end of 2025-2026 Hostel Residence in Term 1 and Term 2 Arrangement

The check-out date for Term 1 will be on 27 December 2025 (Sat), before 12:00 noon. Students who reside in the first term only should complete the check-out procedure and return the room keys at hostel counter.  Please read the check-out notice and complete the “Hostel Deposit Refund Form.

All UC student hostels will be closed in the following two periods, all residents are requested to return home to be with your families:

  • Conducting a major cleaning: from 27 December 2025 (Sat) 12:00 noon to 2 January 2026 (Fri) 12:00 noon
  • CNY Holidays: from 16 February (Mon) to 20 February 2026 (Fri) 12:00 noon

To facilitate cleaning works, please do not place items on the floor or windowsill, and please store your personal belongings properly before leaving the hostel. Residents who have no residence place in Hong Kong or have special reason wishing to stay during the closure period, must complete the following online form before 5:30pm on Friday, 5 December 2025 for wardens’ consideration and approval. Late submissions will not be accepted.  Result will be notified by email by 19 December 2025.

The check-in date for Term 2 will start from 2 January 2026 (Fri), 12:00 noon. The air-conditioning usage hours in each room will be re-calculated when the new term starts.

HKSAR Government Scholarship Fund – Reaching Out Awards 2025-2026

United College full-time undergraduate students are now invited to apply for the Reaching Out Awards (ROA) 2025-2026 offered by the HKSAR Government.  The application period is from 26 November 2025 to 14 January 2026 (5:30 pm).  These awards, in the amount of HK$10,000 each, aim at supporting students to participate in the outreach activities which are conducted outside Hong Kong during the period from 1 September 2025 to 31 August 2026.  There is no restriction on the duration of the outreach activities.

 

Year 1 applicants must have good academic results in public examinations; Year 2 or above applicants must have attained a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above up to the summer session of the previous academic year.  Applicants who participate in UC GOAL Programme will be given higher consideration.  Each ROA awardee is required to submit a reflection report on the activities he/she participated, following the ‘Guidelines for Self-reflection Report’, within one month of the completion of the activity to the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid, CUHK.

 

Interested students please read the Application Details and submit online application form, followed by submission of the hard copy of Resume of Nominee and required supporting documents to UC Dean of Students’ Office during the period from 26 November 2025 to 14 January 2026 (5:30 pm).  Incomplete and late applications will not be accepted.

Professor Chen Tien Chi Arts and Cultural Activities Subsidy Programme 2025-26

To encourage students to organise and participate in arts and cultural activities, the College has launched a subsidy programme. Students can plan any activity with artistic or cultural elements for College’s review, and subsidy could be provided for the event if your application is successful.

 

Application Details:

Students or student groups must plan to hold the event between 1 January, and 31 May 2026. The winners or units will be subsidised according to their programme proposals. Expenses will be reimbursed based on actual expenses , and the winning individuals or groups must submit an activity and financial report to the College.

Alumnus TO Cho-Yee Award for Chinese Classical Art 2025-2026

Applications are now open for the Alumnus TO Cho-Yee Award for Chinese Classical Art 2025-2026. The award has been established to support students in their creative and developmental endeavors within the field of traditional Chinese art and culture, and to encourage the sustained cultivation of interest in this area.

Submission Requirements
Participants are required to submit an original entry related to traditional Chinese arts and culture, accompanied by a written interpretation (maximum 200 words) The interpretation should include suggestions on how the College can further promote this type of Chinese art.

The content and format of the entry shall include but not limited to Chinese calligraphy, literature, paper-cutting, painting, opera, dance, Guoshu, music, etc. For performance (such as dance, Guoshu, music,etc.), participants must submit a performance video not longer than 20 minutes.

Awards
Grand Awards: 2 (Cash prize of HKD$ 3,000 each)
Finalists: 4 (Cash prize of HKD$ 500 each)

Application Procedure and Deadline
All UC students are welcome to apply. Students should complete the online application form and upload their artworks by 5:00 pm, 22 December 2025.

The original artworks must be submitted to the Dean of Students’ Office by the same deadline, except for performance art entries. Late submission will not be accepted. The results will be announced in late Jan 2026.

Appeal results for 2025-2026 regular-term residence and the updated waiting list for Freshmen

The appeal results with the 2nd round room allocation and the updated waiting list for freshmen in UC student hostels have been announced on 19 September 2025.  To view the results, please login by your CUHK email and the password which was sent to your email.

Successful applicants will receive their billing notification from the Finance Office of the University by e-mail. 

Student residents are advised to check-in at their respective hostels from 19 to 24 September 2025.  Late admission without notification to Warden and the College will be treated as relinquishing the hostel place.  Please read the “Guidelines for Registration” and “Hostel Regulation” carefully before moving in.

The hostel application results with room allocation for freshmen have been announced on the College website on 28 August 2025.   Please login by your CUHK email with the password to view the results. The password has been sent to you by email.

The residential term for 2025-2026 will start from 31 August 2025 to 15 May 2026.  Successful applicants will receive their billing notification from the Finance Office of the University by e-mail.  You are required to pay the hostel fees and the tuition fees at the same time.  Those wishing to relinquish their hostel places must notify the Working Committee on Selection of Resident Students by email before 5 September 2025 (Email: hostel.uc@cuhk.edu.hk).  Hostel places vacated by students who choose to relinquish their rooms will be reassigned by the College to students on the waiting list.

Students who have a valid reason to lodge an appeal or submit a late application should complete the College’s online form https://cloud.itsc.cuhk.edu.hk/webform/view.php?id=13715791 during the period of 28 August to 5 September 2025 (10:00am). Relevant documents should be uploaded together as instructed.  Results of appeals and second-round allocation will be announced on the College website on 19 September 2025.

Student residents are advised to check-in at their respective hostels between 1:00pm to 6:00pm on Sunday, 31 August 2025.  If Typhoon No.8 signal or above or the Black Rainstorm signal is hoisted on 1 September, the check-in day will be postponed to the following day at 9am.  For details and documents required upon check-in, please refer “Guidelines for Registration at UC Student Hostels (2025-2026)”.

Important Notes for Freshmen in 2025-26

 

  1. Attendance Requirement
  • For 2025-26, students in the class are required to attend 3 College Assemblies per Term in Person or ^Live Stream.

^Live Stream will be broadcasted in the classrooms near Sir Run Run Shaw Hall or in C2, C3 G/F T C Cheng. No video link will be provided.

*Please use the University email account to register e-tickets online.

  • All e-tickets are on a first come, first served basis.
  • If students wish to re-schedule their tickets of a registered session, one needs to release one of your registered tickets on the Registration website (RAS) before 8:00am on the day of that event. Then you can re-register for another session, provided that seats are still available.

Applications for UC student hostel accommodation for 2025-2026 will be open from August 21 to August 25, 2025 (10am).  UC local freshmen who want to experience hostel life can apply via the webform. Relevant documents should be uploaded as instructed. Students who have received the UC Hostel Scholarship should also submit their applications. Incomplete forms and late applications will not be considered. Please read the “Notice to Applicants” and “Student Hostel Regulations” carefully before applying.

*Non-local freshmen do not need to submit application for the hostel places in 2025-2026 since the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid has already arranged with the College.

The appeal results and 2nd round hostel places allocation for UC regular-term residence 2025-2026 have been announced on 30 June 2025.  Please login by your CUHK email with the password which has been sent to you by email to view the results.

Successful applicants will receive their billing notification from the University Finance Office by email.  They are required to pay the hostel fees together with the tuition fees at the beginning of the new academic year.  Those wishing to relinquish their hostel places must notify the Working Committee on Selection of Resident Students by email (hostel.uc@cuhk.edu.hk) before 1:00pm on 11 July 2025.  Otherwise, they will be disqualified from applying for hostel accommodation in the following academic year.

Residents who will reside in UC student hostels and wish to choose roommate(s) should submit applications by completing “Roommate(s) Selection Form” as below before 1:00pm on 11 July 2025.

Residents who will reside in UC student hostels and wish to choose roommate(s) should submit the following “Roommate(s) Selection Form” before 1:00pm of 11 July 2025.

Successful applicants wishing to relinquish their hostel places must notify the Working Committee on Selection of Resident Students by email (hostel.uc@cuhk.edu.hk) before 1:00pm of 11 July 2025Otherwise, they will be disqualified from applying for hostel accommodation in the following academic year.

Unsuccessful applicants may lodge appeals by submitting the following appeal application form to the Working Committee on Selection of Resident Students before 1:00pm of 9 June 2025 if they have special reasons not previously mentioned or need to submit documents as supplementary information.  Appeal results and second-round allocation will be announced on the College website on 30 June 2025.

Successful applicants can submit applications for choosing roommates before 11 July 2025.  Room allocation will be completed by the end of August 2025.  Further details will be announced on the College website closer to the date.  Those wishing to relinquish their hostel places should notify the Working Committee on Selection of Resident Students in writing (email: hostel.uc@cuhk.edu.hk) before 11 July 2025.

The rooms assigned to successful applicants are not to be exchanged or sub-let to others. The hostel places vacated by non-local undergraduate opting to relinquish their rooms will be assigned by the college to non-local undergraduates on the waiting list.
