The recruitment exercise of the College’s Cantonese Debate Team in 2020-2021 was completed. Nine former members would continue to serve the Team and eight new members were selected to join the Team after two rounds of interview forming the team with in total 17 members. The College invited Dr. Leung Tak-wah, Senior Lecturer, Department of Chinese Language and Literature, to continuously serve as the Team Warden and assist in training of the Team for upcoming matches. It invites internationally renowned scholars to visit the College every year, in order to foster cultural and academic exchanges between the scholar and College members. The College will open Tien Chi Microcomputer Laboratory for United College students to facilitate them to attend Zoom classes from 7 September 2020 onwards.
Students please observe the following guidelines:
1) Tien Chi Micocomputer Laboratory is located at G/F, Wu Chung Library. The opening hours of the laboratory is as follows:
Monday to Friday 9:00 am – 6:30 pm
Saturday, Sunday and Public Holidays Closed
2) This service is only for United College students.
3) To keep social distancing and to protect all users, only limited seats will be provided to students with needs.
4) Student is required to bring his/her computer/devices, as well as headphone and microphone.
5) Student is required to check body temperature and clean hands with hand sanitizer when entering the laboratory.
6) Student is required to wear mask all the times within laboratory.
7) No eating or drinking is allowed in laboratory.

The Chinese University of Hong Kong implemented special work arrangements earlier due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and only essential and major services have been provided in campus. In view of the latest development of the pandemic situation, CUHK announces that Departments/Units will make necessary arrangements to ramp up to full operation gradually from 24 August, to cater to teaching and learning, related activities and service needs. Staff members will be informed of the work arrangements by their respective Heads of Departments/Units accordingly. The first semester of the new academic year will begin on 7 September as scheduled.
The College Office and Dean of Students’ Office will resume services from 24 August 2020.

As the spread of the novel coronavirus has reached a critical stage, to reduce the risk of spreading the coronavirus, the internship programme is to be postponed until further notice. As the spread of the novel coronavirus has reached a critical stage, the University has elevated the Response Level against novel coronavirus to “Emergency”. All UC hostels will introduce the following arrangements with immediate effect:
1. The University has decided to extend the Lunar New Year holiday, classes will resume on 17 February 2020. Therefore, all students are encouraged to stay at home. Unless it is necessary, you should not return to the hostels to reduce the risk of infection.
2. Those who need to stay at hostels are required to comply with the following measures:
a. No visitors are allowed to enter hostel areas with immediate effect.
b. Residents are required to record their personal information and the time when they enter and leave the hostel, in order to let the warden keep track the condition of residents
c. All students who return to hostels are required to declare their travel history in the previous 14 days by filling in the Health Declaration Form (See below). They are also required to monitor their health status for 14 days by filling in the Self-medical Surveillance Form (See below). The forms should be submitted to their respective hostel wardens.
d. All residents should wear surgical mask at public area and wash their hands frequently.
e. Those who experience any illness, or get to know their roommate with illness symptoms, should contact warden and resident tutor immediately for necessary arrangement.
As the situation is critical at this moment, the College strongly advises all residents to stay at home, avoid contact with different people by reducing the risk of infection. All the above measures may cause inconvenience to residents but they are necessary and your health is always our primary concern. All of us are urged to take care of their personal health and look out for the well-being of those around us.

Non-local Internship or Research Scheme
This award scheme is open for application to those students who are going to join a short-term non-local internship or research programme (including field trips) of the respective teaching Department/Faculty during summer or winter breaks.
Supported by the College Endowment Fund, these studentships allow students to participate in short-term non-local study programmes and activities organized by the College, the University and other reputable outside organizations.
